There are numerous restaurants and hotels in Mysuru which serve the best of non-vegetarian dishes and among those one such restaurant is Hanumanthu New Hotel Devi Annex located on first main road, 5th cross street in Saraswathipuram. This hotel launched 98 years ago by late Hanumanthappa, serves delicious food at affordable prices and has won the hearts of numerous regular customers from the heritage city and other places. Chicken and mutton biryani, a specialty of this restaurant attracts food lovers from far and wide. Some of the recipes are as old as the restaurant. The authentic ingredients are used in the preparation of non-veg delicacies – chicken, mutton and seafood. Popular among the dishes is the brain thokku, mutton chops, mutton kudal and thala curry. All are made in home-ground masalas and spices for good digestion.
In a candid chat with ‘City Sunday,’ the proprietor of the hotel since 23 years, Ramesh N Gowda, says that the lovers of non-vegetarian food simply relish the dishes including the chicken and mutton palav, tandoori chicken, kalmi and chilly kebab served at their popular restaurant. Only Halal meat of chicken and lamb is used in preparing the dishes, he adds. Ramesh Gowda personally prepares and monitors the food preparation daily. “The unique feature of our hotel is that the dishes are prepared using traditional firewood and earthen furnace instead of LPG stoves.”
In lamb meat, chops, mutton fry, mutton liver, mutton liver fry, mutton chilly, pepper mutton, khaima balls, thale mamsa (head meat), thale mamsa fry, leg soup, boti (gizzard) and boti fry are among the most sought after dishes by customers, says Ramesh Gowda and further adds that chicken kurma, chicken chilly, chicken fry and kebabs, chicken masala, chicken pepper, chops and lollipop, and chicken fried rice is popular among customers.
Ramesh Gowda says that the restaurant offers boneless fish kebabs and boneless fish chilly, fish fry and fish curry (gravy) to the food lovers who crave for seafood. Halal meat is used in all our preparations and Hanumanthu’s Crunchy chicken will be introduced soon, he adds.
The restaurant is a three-storey building wherein the first and second floor is normally occupied by families; around 80 people can be accommodated at a time. Takeaways for breakfast, lunch and dinner are available between the restaurant hours from 8 am to 11 pm daily. On Mondays the restaurant will remain closed.
