State level Yoga Prabhodha organised as part of the Yoga Dasara was inaugurated in the city on Wednesday.
As part of series of programmes organised by the Yoga Dasara sub-committee to promote Yoga among public, Yoga Prabhodha was formally inaugurated by Mayor B L Bhyrappa at the Maharaja’s centenary hall on Wednesday. Delivering the inaugural address, Bhyrappa said, “Yoga results in comprehensive development of the personality. It has wide range of benefits including physical fitness and can help in keeping many diseases at bay. There has been series of seminars and programmes organised to promote Yoga this year during Mysuru Dasara. This will provide a great platform for Yoga practitioners, students and public to get benefit out of it.”
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Superintendent of Police Ravi D Channannavar said, “In recent times there has been increase in six pack culture and aerobics culture among the youngsters. Yoga is not just about physical exercise but it develops spiritual, physical and mental conscience of human beings. In ancient times those who practiced yoga were having good concentration and had an ability to answer eight to ten questions at a time.
They were called as Ashtavadhani or Dashavadhani, but the span of attention or concentration among the modern day youths is not more than 15 minutes. It’s high time for them to practice yoga which not only develops their concentration but also builds a physical and mental strength.”
Various resource persons including Dr A S Chandrashekhar, Dr Aparna Surendra, Sri Hari and Dr Srivatsa conducted various lectures as part of the programme. MLA Vasu, deputy special officer of the Yoga Dasara sub-committee Kala Krishnaswamy, ZP President Nayeema Sultana, Working president of the Sub-committee M N Nataraj and others were present.
