Prime News, Nation, (New Delhi), September 13:-The Congress affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) today made a comeback after four years by winning the post of President and Vice-president in the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, while the post of Secretary and Joint Secretary went to the RSS’ student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Earlier after the counting of votes, it had been declared that NSUI had bagged three posts but after recounting, one post went in favour of ABVP.
Rocky Tuseed won the president’s post by a margin of 1,590 votes, while Kunal Sehrawat defeated the ABVP candidate by 175 votes. ABVP’s Mahamedha Nagar defeated NSUI’s Minakshi Meena by 2,624 votes to win the post of secretary while Uma Shankar defeated NSUI’s Avinash Yadav 342 votes.
When the counting started on Wednesday morning, ABVP was leading on all posts. However, NSUI took a lead mid-way staging a comeback.
The boost for NSUI comes at a time when the student group was thrown off the contest in a humiliating defeat in Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union (JNUSU) election held on September 8.
While the Left Unity swept the polls after a tough fight from ABVP, more students voted for NOTA (None of the above) than NSUI.
According to Delhi University data out of the 1,02,624 voters in the 40-odd DUSU affiliated morning colleges, 46,504 students turned up to cast their votes in the election on September 12.The voter turnout has increased by almost 10 per cfent since last year.
The win is a shot in the arm for the NSUI which had won only one seat last year.
Meanwhile, NSUI threatened to go to court over the third seat which had declared ABVP win after re-counting.
