Gayle storm finally arrives, RCB ends losing streak

Royal Challengers Bangalore stepped up their game and defeated Gujarat Lions by 21 runs, thus ending the 3-match losing row in the 10th edition of  the IPL.

Asked to bat first, RCB were powered by a century partnership between Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli to 213-2 – the highest total of the season. In the second half, the RCB bowlers defended the score by restricting the home side to 192-7.

Led by Chris Gayle’s 38-ball 78 and captain Kohli’s patient 50-ball 64 and the cameos from Travis Head (30* from 16 balls) and Kedar Jadhav (38* from 16 balls), who added 54 runs in 4.1 overs, took RCB past the 200-run mark and eventually to 213-2.

Gujarat Lions kept losing wickets at regular intervals, thanks to some magnificent bowling by spinner Yuzvender Chahal. Brandom McCullum stood his ground firmly and did show hopes of taking the Lions par the target. But his innnigs was cut short by Chahal who dismissed him at 72. Despite Ishan Kishan’s late heroics – the teenager smashed 39 from 16 balls, the Gujarat Lions could only reach 192-7. – PR
