Fines have been collected regularly by traffic police of the state for various violations. In general, entire money collected is deposited in government treasury and once deposited it cannot be taken back by police department. They need to get a separate sanction from the government, which takes a long time. However, it is the news that Andhra Pradesh government is going to give a 40% share of the fines collected back to the department to use it for various infrastructure facilities for traffic regulation or improvement. This may to certain extent mitigate the shortage of the funds allocated in the budgets. Similarly, Karnataka government may also think in this direction to enable the traffic police to use it as per the local needs. This step may boost the collection of fines, as the stations get their share based on the collections made.
