A 52-year-old City Armed Reserve (CAR) police head constable was found hanging from a tree at the premises of the police officers guest house ‘DG Suites,’ in the city on Thursday.
The deceased is identified as Seshappa, a head constable attached to the CAR.
Vipul Kumar, IGP, Southern Range, said that Seshappa was depressed over some family issues and had on two occasions earlier attempted to kill commit suicide. Kumar said as the building was under renovation, only a few police personnel were deputed at the premises for security. Police is investigating into the case to ascertain the actual cause of the death, he added.
Kumar said that Seshappa reported for duty at 10 pm on Wednesday and called his wife Vimala in the morning to inform her that he would not come home for breakfast. Kumar said Seshappa took the extreme step around 2 pm on Thursday.
Seshappa was deputed at DG Suites which lies inside the compound of the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) residence. The deceased is a native of Bachanahalli in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district and had joined as a police constable in 1992. He was residing at the police quarters in Jyothinagar, in the city.
