Opportunities are hard to come by. When they come, grab them with both the hands. This is what exactly Karun Kaladharan Nair did on the penultimate day of the fifth and final Test against England in Chennai on Monday. The pocket-sized batsman became the only second Indian to slam a triple hundred in Test cricket as he remained unbeaten on 303 against England in the fifth and final Test here.
His Karnataka teammate K L Rahul (199), though unlucky to miss out on a well-deserved double hundred, put on a good partnership with Nair, to ensure India were on their way to make it 4-0.
With over 280-run lead on the board, India are all set to lower the sword on England when the game resumes on Tuesday.
Playing in only his third Test match, Nair’s effort assumes enormous significance. Roped into the team, thanks to injuries to some of the other senior players, the Karnataka player justified selectors’ confidence in him.
Nair kamaal kardiya bhai!
