Coming down heavily on the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor B L Bhyrappa said that the MUDA seemed to have decided to ruin the image of Mysuru with its unscientific layout development plans on the outskirts.
Bhyrappa said that MUDA was developing more than 500 layouts on the outskirts and had not provided enough space for the installation of waste segregation units and high water tanks.
“In the absence of waste segregation units, the waste is dumped at the sewage plant in JP Nagar and the percentage of untreated waste is piling up every passing day,” visibly angry Bhyrappa said while speaking at an awareness programme organised by the MCC to create awareness on public participation in keeping the city clean.
With the increase in the waste generation and JP Nagar plant becoming the dumping yard, people surrounding the area were vulnerable to mosquito-borne diseases. MUDA was not at all concerned about the environment and cleanliness aspects and does not involve itself in any such programmes. It was because of the MCC’s efforts alone that the city was basking under the glory of Cleanest City tag.
The mayor further said that if at all the MUDA officials had an ounce of humanity they would have worked hand in hand with the MCC in maintaining the city clean and would have provided enough space for the installation of waste segregation unit and high water tank.
