MLA G T Devegowda demands CBI probe into ‘sting operations’ of TV channels

Chamundeshwari Constituency JD(S) MLA G T Devegowda demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the sting operations carried out by two television channels to lure MLAs.

Addressing media persons here on Monday, he said “If allegations were proved even against a single MLA out of the five, we should be sacked from the party and be disqualified from contesting any elections. To strengthen democracy, the CBI and Election Commission should take stringent action against the MLAs found guilty.”

Responding to a question over his alleged cooperation for ‘cash for vote’ in a sting operation, G T Devegowda said “I expressed my surprise; it doesn’t mean that I accepted their offer.”

He further accused BJP and the ruling Congress government on entering into a secret agreement ahead of the elections for the Rajya Sabha and Graduates Constituency MLC seats. “The upcoming elections will not be a launch pad for Assembly elections to be held in 2018,” he added.

“BJP’s leaders’ statements in making India free of Congress are absurd as the party has entered into a secret agreement, is unbelievable and never imagined by the people in the state. Prior to the elections, BJP leaders had held talks with JD(S) leaders, but was not finalised. Now, they both (BJP and Congress) have joined hands, to keep JD(S) away. With this, they have given up their intention to make India free from Congress,” he mocked.

JD(S) leader and former Justice Chandrashekaraiah opined that it will be better if the elections are postponed, as allegations are heard against several candidates. BJP and Congress have lost morality. MLA G T Devegowda has not demanded any money. If any MLA has demanded money, it is unfortunate,” he added.

“The MLAs have to decide for whom they need to elect. MLAs’ ‘Resort politics’ culure is not a good sign. It will be better if the elections were postponed. Congress MLAs are not free to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who wants to give fair administration is indirectly extending support to corruption,” he added.

Legislative Council South Graduate Constituency JD(S) Candidate K T Shrikantegowda, JD(S) spokesperson Ramesh Babu and JD(S) legal unit president Ravichandregowda were present.
