Murder accused nabbed by police

Udayagiri police have arrested the main accused in the murder of Jaheda Banu in Gausiyanagar on December 21. The police arrested Salma Khanum alias Shahira Khanum (40) on December 22 at the KSRTC sub-urban bus stand.

Salma Khanum is alleged to have murdered Jaheda Banu by hitting her with a machete in connection with a dispute over their mutual ‘friend’ Kaleem. The accused Salma is said to have an affair with Kaleem who was later introduced to Jaheeda by Salma. Later, Kaleem and Jaheeda are said to have developed an affair which infuriated Salma. On December 21, Salma visited Zaheeda and an argument broke out between the two which led to an attack on Zaheeda by Salma who had come prepared with an iron machete. Salma hit Zaheeda’s head 6 to 7 times with the machete and fled from the scene. Zaheeda breathed her last on her way to a hospital.

On the information given, the Udayagiri police nabbed Salma from the bus stand and have kept her in custody. Udayagiri police inspector Santhosh P P, PSI M Jai Keerthi, Hafeeza Begum, ASI KC Beerappa, Babu Loknathan, police personnel Govinda Nayak, M M Babu, Venkatesh Gowda, M Shankar, Kumar, Shadakshari, B Vasantha, Sumithra, M Eshwar, M M Manjunath, Umesh, Anand Kumar, Gopal, Chandraswami were part of the police team.
