Oscars 2017: ‘Moonlight’ wins Best Picture

It was a night of chaos at the Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles where the 89th academy awards were presented when the presenters of the most prestigious award of the night, ‘the best picture’ award , Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway made an error and announced ‘La La Land’ as the winners. Just when the crew and cast of ‘La LA Land kwere celebrating on the stage, the presenters realised their mistake and announced that the real winner was ‘Moonlight’, leading to much confusion among the audience.

This 2017 academy awards had a few surprises in its pocket. From the youngest director to win an Oscar to the first Muslim actor to win the award, the academy awards saw it all.

‘La La Land’ bagged six trophies, but ‘Moonlight’ defeated the musical flick in the run for ‘ Best film.’

Other than that, Emma Stones, won the ‘Best Actress’ trophy and Damien Chazelle became the ‘Best Director’ for ‘La La Land.’ Casey Affleck won the award of ‘Best Actor’ for ‘Manchester by the Sea,’ which also won an award in the ‘Original Screenplay’ category. Viola Davis also completes ‘triple crown of acting’ by winning an Oscar in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category for ‘Fences.’

The awards were handed out in 24 categories, most of which had five nominees. The two exceptions are the Best Picture category that has nine nominees this year, and Makeup and Hairstyling, which has three nominees.
