Kabini Raita Hitarakshana Samithi is organising seven-day ‘Raita jagruthi ratha yatre’ to create awareness about the problems that farmers may encounter after the establishment of Cauvery water management committee, said committee’s president Kurubur Shantakumar.
Speaking at a press meet on Saturday, he said that the ratha yatre will kick-start by offering floral tribute to the statue of farmer martyr, Guruswamy and this yatra is for creating awareness about the problems the farmers may face if the committee is formed.
This yatra will begin from H D Kote, Nanjangud, T Narasipura, Mysuru, Kollegal, Yalandur, Chamararanagar and will pass through
75 villages surrounding the dam. Awareness will be created among the villagers through open discussion and distributing leaflets. On October 5, there will be a raita samavesha in Mysuru where certain decisions will be taken. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Supreme Court will be approached to pressure them to take suitable decisions, he said.
“Efforts will be made to request the state government to speak to the farmer representatives of both states, irrigation and agricultural experts about the usage of water and solving the current problems through peaceful talks,” he said.
