Students take out awareness rally to mark ‘World Water Day’

An awareness rally was taken out in the city to mark the World Water Day on Wednesday under the joint auspices of Maharaja College and the Department of Geography, University of Mysore.

UoM Registrar Prof R Rajanna flagged off the rally by releasing balloons.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Water is the most essential natural resource to humans. “It is our responsibility to save water. Water consumption will increase in summer, but everyone should remember not to waste water unnecessarily. Man made things can be bought, but if water gets depleted it cannot be bought. It is a gift from nature. Hence, it is each and everyone’s responsibility to save water,” he added.

The college students staged street plays to spread awareness among the public on judicious use of water. Students also formed a human chain at Ramaswamy Circle in the city to create awareness among the public on proper utilisation of water. The rally which commenced from Maharaja College passed through the main thoroughfares and culminated at the DC office. Over 500 students participated in the rally.
