The City Crime Branch (CCB) and Devaraja Police acting on a tip-off arrested two persons who were possessing two elephant tusks.
The arrested have been identified as Gangadhar , 32, of Gundlupet and Manikanta, 29, of HD Kote and were arrested near Jaganmohan Palace in the city.
According to a press release, they were possessing two tusks weighing approximately 18.78 kilos in total. Two mobile handsets, Rs 400 cash and a goods auto that was used to ferry smuggled tusks have been confiscated from them.
Police have continued the investigation to know from where and how they got these wildlife properties.
Though there is no market for wildlife properties in India, there is a huge demand for it in international black market. Miscreants try to make quick buck by smuggling wildlife properties which is a crime in India. CCB inspector GC Raju led the investigation team.
