A male leopard was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Kabini waters on Tuesday night. Senior forest officials and other teams accompanied by a dog squad visited the spot.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the villagers found the body of a leopard floating on the Kabini backwaters attached to Teranimunti village in H D Kote.
Though the exact age could be ascertained after the post-mortem report is procured, it appears to be an adult.
Public who witnessed the leopard suspect that the leopard had come in contact with the live wire installed to protect the farm land. The leopard may have gone to the backwaters to drink water.
According to forest officials, the leopard is suspected to have died on the way to Kabini, “The villagers may have thrown it into the waters fearing legal complications.” A case has been filed at Beechanahalli Police Station.
