13 people fall ill after consuming contaminated water in Bijagganahalli

According to Hunsur TP executive officer, drinking water pipeline was damaged in some places during agriculture activity when the farmers were driving tractors over pipeline which have been installed underground

Thirteen people were admitted to hospital after consuming contaminated water which is supplied through public water pipeline in Bijagganahalli Village Panchayat limits of Hunsur taluk recently. Shwetha, Asharani, Roopa, Sujatha, Puttaswamy, Chennamma, Puttamma, Chikkaroopa, Akshatha, Parvathamma of Bijagganahalli, and Mallamma of Kebbekoppal were admitted to the hospital following severe vomiting. According to Hunsur Taluk Panchayat executive officer, the drinking water pipeline was damaged in some places during agriculture activity when the farmers were driving tractors over pipe line which have been installed underground, thus causing contamination of drainage water with drinking water pipeline.

After meeting 41 Panchayat Development Officers (PDO), visiting the hospital and meeting doctors, Zilla Panchayat former President and member Dr Pushpa B Amarnath instructed officials to take steps to clean all water tanks in the jurisdiction and conduct an awareness programme to consume boiled water. Dr Pushpa Amamath also directed the PDOs to hold a meeting with officials to address the issue. The doctors, those taking care of victims were assured that precautionary measures were taken by Department of Health along with awareness initiatives. Government Hospital Administrative Officer Dr K Hande, Dr Keerthikumar and local leader Shivashekar and others were present.

Dr Pushpa B Amarnath, former ZP President and member is seen at the hospital, directing officials to initiate steps to provide clean drinking water to the people and undertake an awareness programme.
