2-day Yoga competition inaugurated

Two-day district-level Yoga competition for Mysuru division school boys and girls was inaugurated in the city on Tuesday.

Zilla Panchayat, in association with Department of Public Instructions, is jointly organising the two-day district-level Yoga competitions at Shikshakara Bhavan. Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) H R Basappa inaugurated the programme.

Delivering the inaugural address, he said: “Yoga results in the all-round development of the personality. It has ample range of benefits including physical fitness and mental development. The competitions jointly organised by the department and ZP will provide a great platform for students who are practicing yoga to exhibit their talent.”

Speaking to City Today, District Physical Education Officer C Mariyappa said: “Over 237 students from all seven taluks have registered for the competitions. We are conducting competitions in two categories, under-14 boys and girls and under-17 boys and girls. Highlight of this competition is we are conducting artistic Yoga competition and also rhythmic yoga performance by the students.”

Dr Ganesh Kumar, Basavaraju and others were present.
