Former Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore Prof Dr P Selvi Das on Wednesday said: “The freedom of women in the society should go along with chastity. When women are getting raped and harassed, this should also be the responsibility of any women to prioritise her dress code.”
After inaugurating the 20th refresher course in English on ‘Women and Literature’ organised by UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) at Centre for Information Science and Technology, she said: “In order to command respect in the society, women must cultivate self-respect and self-discipline within self. The honesty, integrity and self-realisation are the key to propagate good culture in the society.”
“Women empowerment was first started in the time of British Raj, at that time itself women from rich family were able to afford good education. We must thank Dr B R Ambedkar, the sculptor of our constitution, for giving women equal status in the society.”
“Even today there are many women who are deprived of education. Thus education for women in rural areas should be given priority,” she added.
