We have the ultimate constitutional rights:  Prof M K Ramesh

“Our constitutional drafting committee members were none but the freedom fighters. They clearly knew the fundamental rights to be given to the citizens of the country. No wonder we have the ultimate constitutional rights with us today,” said, Prof M K Ramesh, Prof of Law, National Law School of India University, Bengaluru on Saturday.

He was speaking at Constitution Day held at Vidyavardhaka Law College. After inaugurating the programme, he said, “The drafting committee members of the constitution were one of the finest policy makers in the world. They had the determination to draft a sensible constitution that can deliver the social justice to all the citizens in the country. Our constitution took 2 years, 11 months and 27 long days to be finalised as it had largest legal aspects”.

“During his speech at the constituent assembly while drafting our constitution, Dr B R Ambedkar said that he became the member of the drafting committee and later chosen as its chairman just to bring equality and bring the backward classes into the mainstream. This can be called as one of the interesting aspects in the history of drafting the constitution,” he added.

“They all had the common wish to work for the better and finest constitution in the world,” he added. Sudhindranath S, District and Sessions Judge, Mysuru, Mohammad Mujeerulla C G, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of District Legal Services Authority, Mysuru, Gundappa Gowda, President, Vidyavardhaka Sangha, P Vishwanath, Secretary, Vidyavardhaka Sangha and students were present.
