Driver commits suicide, foul play suspected

Anil (22), driver of Manjunath, a Water Resource Department Officer, committed suicide by hanging himself at Kuvempunagar, on Monday.

It is suspected that Anil may have died last Thursday. Realising a foul smell was emanating from the house where Anil was staying, neighbours brought the issue to the notice of the police. Anil, a native of Kittur, was working as a driver with a private car provider, Amit.

As the Water Resource Department had no vehicle of their own, Amit, who had three private cars, rented one of his cars to Manjunath. Anil was appointed as the driver for Manjunath’s car. On Thursday, Anil had been to Amit’s room in Kuvempunagar where drivers stay overnight if they are late.

It is said that Anil called his co-driver Jeevan, to know his whereabouts. Jeevan told he was off to Mangaluru. It was the last conversation made by Anil. Kuvempunagar police are trying to contact Amit who is absconding since five days.

Anil’s parents claims that their son was not a person who would commit suicide. They suspect Amit’s involvement in Anil’s death. Kuvempunagar police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) and the investigation is in progress
