A night to remember: Police Band mesmerises audience

The Dasara celebration in Mysuru reached a whole new level on Thursday, thanks to the magnificent musical display by the Karnataka Police Band at the Palace premises, Mysuru.

Performing in front of the illuminated palace, the band comprising 550 musicians from all over the state left the audience wanting for more. The main highlight of the musical concert by the ‘band in khaki’ was a ‘jugalbandi’ between the English band and the Karnataka Shastriya Vaadya Vrinda who went on to display a phenomenal musical show.


The mass band was headed by Alfred S Kumar. The English band played some of the Western classics such as ‘L’bimbo’, ‘My friend Jack’, ‘Rasputin’ and ‘Isle of Capree’. Not to be left behind, Karnataka Shastriya vadya vrinda gave a befitting reply, playing some of the well known devotional verses like ‘Shobillu saptaswara’, ‘Shri Paramathmudu’, ‘Chintheyambe Jagadamba’ and ‘Yenderu Mahaanubhavanu’. A special performance by the ‘Pipe band’ received a thunderous applause from the audience.

Prizes were distributed under the categories of big band, medium band and small band. The impressed IGP and DGP announced a special reward of Rs 2 lakh for the musicians. Melody was definitely in the air as the audience went home cherishing each and every bit of the music played by the ‘band in khaki’.
