A man who has eaten to his heart’s content is undoubtedly the happiest, pronounces an age-old saying. Yes, none of us can control hunger and that too when delicious food is tempting us! However, Mysuru has been fortunate to have restaurants that understand the pulse of food lovers. One such restaurant is the Nanking Chinese Room, located at 119, High Tension Road, Vijayanagar 2nd Stage, Mysuru, near Vidyavardhaka Engineering College. Launched in 2011, this restaurant has earned the goodwill of customers -both Indians and foreigners alike.
The smiling Nandu T Sherpa, Proprietor-cum- Master Chef, in conversation with City Today disclosed that Thai and Chinese cuisines were most popular among the customers visiting his restaurant. In addition, Korean and Japanese cuisines are also in demand, says Sherpa.
Recalling his 27 years of service, Sherpa proudly says that Nanking is the leading Chinese restaurant in the city which doesn’t compromise on ‘quality and quantity.’ Manchow veg and chicken soup is the most sought-after soup by the customers, says Sherpa who has also worked at reputed star hotels like Oberoi and Leela Palace Zen in Bengaluru. Interested in cooking since he was a teenager, Master Chef Sherpa has travelled to Istanbul in Turkey and St Petersburg in Russia.

The restaurant specialises in a variety of seafood dishes, chicken and mutton dishes and also veg delicacies, says Sherpa. Chinese Express lunch is served at the Nanking from Monday to Friday and the restaurant is open from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm daily.
According to Sherpa, Chinese salad comprising shredded cucumber, onion, carrot, tomato-chilly paste and Chinese paste with sweet and spicy dressing is a favourite. Yam Woonsen, a Thai salad with a spicy mix up of glass noodles and vegetables is also popular among foreign customers, adds Sherpa.
A variety of Chinese starters, Thai and Chinese appetizers, soups including Tom Yam Kai, a spicy mixed veg soup with chicken and the Tom Kha soup made using coconut milk, lemon grass, Tom Yum paste, green chilly and basil leaves is available at Nanking.
