Abusing women punishable: CPI Pradeep Kumar

Mysuru, October 31:- The issue of men from outside states marrying women from Periyapattana taluk and abusing them were discussed at the grievance meeting of SC/ST communities of Periyapattana taluk on Wednesday. Leader of Dalita Sangharsha Samithi Venkatesh raised the issue at the meeting organised by the Police Department at Rotary Hall here.

He said that Dalit girls are being married to men from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There are also complaints of girls being abused. He requested the police to undertake a thorough investigation. He said that a team is actively functioning to brainwash the minds of the parents of girl children for this purpose.

Circle Inspector Pradeep Kumar said that misusing women is a punishable offence and said the department would consider this complaint seriously and take up the proper investigation.

Taluk panchayat member Ramu alleged that illegal alcohol is being sold rampantly in the taluk and urged the police to take strict action. He said that officials have not responded positively to it even after receiving several complaints. Pradeep Kumar said that this might be happening as Excise Department is pressurising the alcohol sellers to sell a certain amount of alcohol every month. He said proper action would be taken against illegal alcohol sellers.
