Activists stage protests against steep fee hike by RTO

Opposing the Central government’s announcement on steep hike in driving licence fee, registration fee for new vehicles and fines, various associations staged protests in the city on Wednesday.

The members of Karnataka Autorickshaw Owners and Drivers’ Welfare Association staged a protest in front of Kote Anjeyaswamy temple premises in city, against the Central government and road transportation department for introducing unscientific hike of fees in RTO. The members of the association said “The Central government has taken an intuitive step by hiking the RTO fees across the country. The new price is unscientific and will harm the informal workers, auto and cab drivers. The government must immediately change the newly announced fees brought into force by the RTOs.”

The activists also urged the authorities to immediately stop the new ‘Trin Trin,’ a public bicycle sharing system initiative of Mysuru district administration.

President of the association M V Srinivas Mithra, Vice President Nissar Ahmed, Karnataka Kavalu Pade state president M Mohan Kumar Gowda and others were present.

In another protest, MLA M L Somashekhar along with members of Mysuru District Vehicle Owners representative association staged a protest in front of the RTO office, urging the authorities to immediately take back the announcement.
