Mysuru, June 23:- Due to a long-drawn lockdown, Mysuru Zoo and other zoos in Karnataka were suffering without any income. Coming to its rescue, ‘Challenging Star’ Darshan Tugudeepa made an open request and the contributions have started pouring in. As of today (June 23), the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) has received over Rs 3 crore by virtue of adoptions.
Talking to reporters, ZAK chairman L R Mahadevaswamy said, “Darshan’s request has had a good effect. Over 6,000 people have adopted animals from nine zoos in the state. We have collected around Rs 3,12,69,430 so far. In 20 days, a sum of Rs 2 crore was collected.”
He said, “From July 2020 to June 2021, we could collect Rs 1,94,09,700 through the ZAK App. From direct adoption, we have collected Rs 97,99,186. We received around Rs 20,60,544 in June this year.”
All those who have adopted animals will get a chance to meet the actor and they will get an appreciation letter from Sandalwood actor Darshan. Many Sandalwood actors adopted animals after Darshan made a request.
Beginning today (June 23), tourist spots and zoos in Belagavi, Gadag and Hampi have been open to the public.
Actor Malashree has adopted a panther in memory of her late husband ‘Koti’ Ramu after paying Rs 35,000.
