Mysuru, June 17:- Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, it seems, loves controversies. Time and again, he gets into trouble by making controversial statements. He has been criticised by his party leaders for his style of functioning and on Sunday, he found one more person much to his chagrin.
“The recent Mandya Lok Sabha elections have proved what cinema people can do. Don’t speak lightly of people from the film industry,” said Kannada actress Harshika Poonacha in response to a statement by Mahesh.
He had asked Harshika to speak only about films and asked her if she is qualified enough to about the houses constructed for the flood-affected people in Kodagu district. Harshika hit back at the minister in a video, saying she had not blamed anyone, but had only requested the government to build quality houses.
“I spoke at a press meet in Mysuru. I have seen photos of some model houses. I didn’t like them. They were looking like sheet houses without proper ventilation and light. That’s why I requested the government to build good quality houses without harming the self-respect of the people of Kodagu. The minister questioned my qualification. I have studied engineering. I am the daughter of Kodagu and a citizen of India. I have the right to ask. Even Women and Child Welfare Minister Smriti Irani is from the film industry. Many ministers of Tamil Nadu are also from the film industry. Cinema people have proved what they can do in Mandya. Don’t take artistes for granted,” she added. (MR/KS)
