Prime News, National, Crime, Hyderabad, December 6:- Four persons arrested in connection with rape-and-murder of a woman veterinarian near here last month were killed in an encounter with police Friday morning, police said. The encounter took place at Chatanpally in Shadnagar, near Hyderabad in the early hours today (Dec 6).
“The four accused were killed in an encounter with police,” Cyberabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said.
According to initial reports, the police were trying to reconstruct the crime scene when the accused Mohammed Arif (26), Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu (20), and lorry cleaners Jollu Shiva (20) and Jollu Naveen (20) tried to escape. Police opened fire after due warnings and all four died on the spot. All the accused hailed from the Narayanpet district of Telangana.
Two policemen were also injured in the incident, a senior police official said.
Police sources said they were gunned down at the same spot where the accused had dumped the victim’s body and set it afire on the night of November 27 after the gang-rape near Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
A court on Wednesday had remanded the accused to police custody for seven days. The police believed to have taken them into custody on Thursday. This was done secretly as police was anticipating law and order problem due to possible protest by people.
The 27-year old veterinary doctor was abducted and raped on November 27 after the accused offered her help when her bike got punctured. The victim’s charred remains were found later.
The issue also took centre stage in both Houses of Parliament on Monday with political parties unanimously demanding stringent measures to ensure women’s safety. Lawmakers cutting across party lines expressed outrage on the growing number of crimes against women in India. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
