Mysuru, May 5:- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah on Saturday arrived in Mysuru to take part in a daylong road show and poll campaigning activities in various constituencies in the district.
Shah who was scheduled to begin his road show from the Periyapattana Constituency at 11:30 am got delayed by an hour and began at 12:45 pm. On Saturday morning, various electronic media reported that Shah had skipped his visit to Varuna Constituency in fear of ‘backlash’ from the BJP workers for failing to field a strong candidate from the constituency. However, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha on his twitter handle confirmed that Shah has not skipped the rally in Varuna, but it has been rescheduled.
According to BJP sources in the district, Shah may skip the road show and campaigning activities in Varuna and Chamundeshwari Constituencies in fear of ‘backlash’ from their own party workers in the constituency for failing to field strong contenders.
He skipped Chamundeshwari Constituency in his itinerary which was announced by BJP on Friday that raised the eyebrows of political leaders in the region. On Saturday morning, it was reported that the BJP chief would also skip Varuna Constituency from his itinerary and would restrict the road show only to T Narasipur Constituency.
According to sources, the BJP workers in Varuna Constituency and loyalists of B Y Vijayendra, son of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, had planned to protest and oppose the visit of Shah to the constituency for failing to issue ticket to Vijayendra.
Fearing a ‘backlash’ by BJP workers, the party leaders have been trying to avoid Shah’s visit to the constituency as he would face embarrassing situation during his poll campaign. However, the party would take a call on the issue,” BJP sources said.
Similarly, in Chamundeshwari, Shah skipped the road show in support of BJP candidate Gopal Rao who is considered to be a ‘weak BJP candidate’ to take on Siddaramaaih and Janata Dal (Secular) leader G T Devegowda.
According to Congress workers, Shah has purposefully skipped campaigning activities in Chamundeshwari which clearly appears that the BJP has made a tacit understanding with the JD(S) to defeat Siddaramaiah in the constituency.
Meanwhile, Amit Shah arrived in Periyapattana Constituency in Mysuru district at 12:30 pm and conducted a road show in an open vehicle along with BJP leaders from APMC yard, seeking votes for BJP candidate Manjunath.
