The second annual convocation of Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hangal music and Performing Arts University was held in the city on Tuesday.
Delivering the convocation address, Dr L Subramaniam, world’s famed violinist said, “Karnataka has contributed immensely to the field of music and performing arts. Mysuru, being the cultural capital, has many exponential musicians to its credit, from musician Chowdaiah to Veena Sheshanna, the list goes on.”
“Music is a vast ocean and no one can claim to know it all. The more you know, the more you realise how little you know. It is an eternal quest,” he added.
Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala, Vice-chancellor of the university, Dr Sarvamangala Shankar, Registrar Prof Niranjana and others were present.
Three get honorary doctorates
On the occasion, Prof Gowri Kuppuswami in Carnatic music- vocal, Prof N Rajamin, Hindustani music – instrumental (violin), Nadoja Enagi Balappain, drama (theatre) were conferred with honorary doctorates.
On the occasion a total of 47 candidates received the degrees certificates and 17 students received the gold medals.
