Asian Games 2018: India’s Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bags gold

Prime News, International Games and National, Asian Games, Athletics, Jakarta (Indonesia), August 28:- Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra made the country proud on Monday as he clinched a gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event of the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The 20-year-old, who finished with a brilliant throw of 88.06m to make it to the top of the podium, also posted a national record as he got past his previous best of 87.43m which he had set during the Diamond League in Doha, earlier this year.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games gold-medalist missed the Asian Games record by a meagre margin of 1.09m.

Indian athlete Dharun Ayyasamy on Monday clinched a silver medal in men’s 400m hurdles event at the ongoing 18th edition of the Asian Games.

The 21-year-old finished the race in 48.96 seconds to finish second on the podium.

While Abderrahman Samba of Qatar clinched the gold medal with a timing of 47.66 seconds in the event, Japanese athlete Takatoshi Abe settled for the bronze after completing the race in 49.12 seconds.

Meanwhile, Sudha Singh also won silver in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a timing of 9:40.03. Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi won gold with a timing of 9:36.52.

Neena Varakil won silver in women’s long jump with a mark of 6.51m, behind Indonesia’s Thi Thu Thao Bui, who won gold with a jump of 6.55m. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
