Mysuru, November 19:-After a attack left Narasimharaja Congress MLA Tanveer Sait battling for life at a private hospital in the city, the police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the reason behind attack.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) M Muthuraj will lead the SIT.
Tanveer Sait was attacked by a man, with a knife, at a wedding ceremony in the city late on Sunday night, police said.
Sait, the Narasimharaja constituency MLA, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mysuru, where he underwent a surgery, they said. The attacker has been identified as Farhaan Pasha, aged about 25 years.
As Sait was seated at the function, Pasha attacked him with a knife and tried to escape, when he was caught by the people at the venue and later handed over to the police. The incident has been caught on video at the event.
On Monday, the police apprehended five more persons in connection with the case.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police K T Balakrishna said the accused was being interrogated extensively and the motive is yet to be ascertained and at the same time the said job angle may be one of the reasons for the attack. He added that the police investigation will look into all the angles behind the attack.
The NR Police has slapped a case under IPC section 307 and charged him with attempt to murder.
Considering the serious nature of the case, the police beefed up security in Udayagiri, Ghousia Nagar and surrounding areas to thwart any untoward incident. (NAV)
