Auto, taxi drivers hail state government’s compensation

Mysuru, June 4:- Belaku of the city thanked the state government for providing compensation of Rs 5,000 each to autorickshaw and taxi drivers.

The state government has provided compensation to 40,000 taxi and auto drivers. Belaku held an event to thank Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on behalf of the drivers on Thursday (June 5).

Auto and taxi drivers of the city, along with K M Nishanth of Belaku, distributed sweets to the public.

“Belaku started a centre to help drivers and more than 1,000 drivers made use of the centre and applied online for the compensation. Remaining drivers will get their compensation in the next couple of days,” said Nishanth.

“Movement of auto and taxis had been completely stopped during the Covid-19 lockdown and drivers were struggling for livelihood. The chief minister announced the compensation to help the drivers. Around 1.8 lakh applications have been submitted and 40,000 drivers have received the compensation in the first phase. The chief minister has helped the drivers in time. On behalf of all the drivers, we thank the government,” said drivers’ association president Nanjundaswamy.
