Autonomy for Kodagu: CNC to hold Delhi Chalo on November 1

No need to observe Tipu Jayanti in Kodagu: CNC

Mysuru, October 31:- “Codava National Council (CNC) is organising ‘Delhi Chalo’ on November 1, demanding autonomy for Kodagu District. A peaceful sathyagraha (hunger strike) will also be staged in front of the French Consulate office in Delhi on November 2 to press for an apology from the French government for appeasing Tipu Sultan,” said office-bearer of Codava National Council (CNC) Kaliyanda Prakash at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Tuesday.

“The council has been formed to regain the lost freedom and land of Codavas. For about 50 Codava men and women will take part in the event. French East India company had joined hands with Tipu and invited innocent Codavas for lunch and butchered Codava men, women and children mercilessly. We urge the present French government to apologise for the atrocities on Codavas,” he alleged.

“The flood affected areas in Kodagu District should be announced as national disaster affected areas and a blueprint should be prepared for the reconstruction of Kodagu. The atom bomb on the heart of Kodagu, Harangi Dam should be dismantled,” he said.

“If the government observes Tipu Jayanti, let it be limited to Mysuru. He might be a hero for Mysuru, but for Kodagu, he will always remain a villain. He had killed Kodava men and raped the women. We oppose the government’s decision to observe Tipu Jayanti,” he added.

Katmanianda Umesh, Areyada Girish, Apparanda Poovanna and others were present. (KMR, NGB)
