Public awareness programme on ‘ill-effects of alcohol consumption’ was conducted by Department of Excise at sub-divisional level for nomads of Pakshirajapura in Ummathuru taluk at Prajapitha Brahmakumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya Auditorium, recently.
“It is impossible to expect a healthy family environment where both the parents are drunkards. This will definitely have an impact on the mindset of young children. Though our department is conducting such awareness programmes regularly, it is the couples who have to come out of alcohol addiction,” said Dharanikumar, excise inspector.
Addressing the nomads who attended the awareness programmes, he said “We should realise that by consuming alcohol, some of us behave worse than the animals and are ruining our own lives. The Department of Excise is doing its best to curb consumption of alcohol,” he added.
“Youths are getting addicted to drugs and alcohol. Many families have been ruined due to alcohol comsumption. Only by shifting the bars from our locality to a far off location, the issue can be resolved”, opined an elderly man from the village.
The programme began with an awareness rally through the main streets of the village where people shouted anti-alcohol slogans.
Deputy Superintendent, Department of Excise, Gangadhar Muddannanavar, excise inspector; Manasa, excise inspector of Periyapattana; N T Anandkumar, excise inspector of Hunsur; K Srinivas, excise sub-inspector of Periyapattana Mohan, Lokesh, senior excise officer K S Rajendra, head master of Government Higher Primary School Murthy, village heads Nanjundaswamy, Shankarraj, Ratanraj, Shekhar, Bindya, Pratap, Upendra and Nandita were present.
