A one day state-level awareness programme on the facilities and schemes offered for Christian minorities was held at St.Philomena’s College in city, recently.
Karnataka Minority Commission, Minorities Development Nigam in association with Organisation for Development of People (ODP) organised the programme.
Fr Sebastin Fernandes of Karnataka Regional Social Service Association, who inaugurated the programme, said, “The schemes offered to the community helps to build a life, there is a need for awareness on various facilities and schemes introduced for the benefit of Christian minorities by the government, The minority commission and nigam must help people in providing information and also open up help desk centres at various places so that community members within the city and rural areas can get benefits out of it.”
President of Karnataka State Minority Commission Masood Fouzdar said, “the state government in its budget has allocated Rs 50 crore for the benefit of Christian minorities under various voluntary schemes, awareness schemes, personal and land loans. During last year, Rs 40 crore was released exclusively for the education of Christian minority students to facilitate the community students get proper education to build their career.”
President of Mysuru division minority department Irshad Ahamad, St Philomena’s church parish priest Fr N T Joseph, President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Minority Wing Syed Ahamad, Head of CRO Dominic Vaz, Director of ODP Fr Staney D’ Almeda and others were present.
