Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival comes to an end

Mysuru, February 20:- The 6-day long Bahuroopi National Theatre Festival held on the theme – Gandhi Patha – came to an end on Wednesday. Though the festival was delayed this year, it succeeded in attracting more audience than in previous years. More than 1 lakh people, including more number of youths, participated in Bahuroopi.

Plays of various languages held in 6 stages, folklore events, film festival, handicraft and book exhibition and sales, an exhibition of photos of Mahatma Gandhi, poets’ summit, street plays were held. Along with that, stalls selling Desi foods attracted the visitors.

‘Mane Manege Gandhi’ event held prior to the Bahuroopi succeeded in taking Gandhiji to the houses of the city.

More than 1,000 artistes from various parts of the country participated in the theatre festival. 10 Kannada plays, 11 plays of other Indian languages, 2 Yakshaganas, bayalata and togalu gombeyata were held. Play ‘Mukhyamantri’ starring Mukhyamantri Chandru emerged the major attraction among the plays.

Joint director of Rangayana VN Mallikarjuna Swamy said that Rangayana collected more than Rs 7 lakh by tickets which are more than the previous years. (MR/KS)
