Bakrid, which is a symbol of sacrifice and generosity, was celebrated with zest and enthusiasm in the villages and towns of Yalandur, on Tuesday.
The festivity began with the Muslim community members chanting religious scripts and holding a procession from Jamia Masjid to Edga grounds at national highway 209. The maulvi delivered preachings to the assembled gathering which was then followed by special namaz. Later they exchanged festival greetings by hugging each other.
Villages including Mamballi, Yaragamballi, Gumballi of Yalandur taluk observed Bakrid with zeal and flurry. The ritual of animal sacrifice was performed as a part of the festival. Veterinary Department’s Assistant Director, Dr Nagaraju inspected and certified the process.
Tight security was provided during the prayers due to the ongoing Cauvery agitation. Circle Inspector Shivaswamy and Sub Inspector Manju were in charge during the celebrations.
