Bangladesh: Mob vandalises ISKCON temple, attacks its devotees in Noakhali district

Prime News, International (Dhaka), October 16:- A mob allegedly vandalised an ISKCON temple and attacked its Bangladesh’s Noakhali district on Friday, said temple authorities.

The temple suffered significant damage while the condition of a devotee remains critical. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Taking to its official Twitter handle, the ISKCON said, “ISKCON temple and devotees were violently attacked today by a mob in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Temple suffered significant damage & the condition of a devotee remains critical. We call on the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all Hindus and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

The vandalism follows a series of attacks on minority religious places in Bangladesh this week. According to some reports, Durga puja pandals and idols were targeted in the recent attacks.

If local media in Bangladesh is to be believed, then at least one person was killed and 18 others were injured in an attack in Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali district only.

The deceased was identified as Jatan Kumar Saha, 42, said Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle Begumganj) Md Shah Imran.

“A total of 17 people, including Officer-in-Charge [OC] of Begumganj police station Kamruzzaman Sikder, were injured in the attack,” he added. (MR, Inputs: Agencies).
