Sri Basava Balaga Seva Samiti of Vidyaranypuram will be hosting its Basava Jayanti on Sunday, June 10, in memory of the famous social reformer, Basavanna, who fought for the welfare of the oppressed classes of the society centuries back. The day-long function will include a lot of activities.
Speaking about Basava Jayanti, renowned industrialist of the heritage city, B S Prashant, who is also the secretary of the Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasbha, said the same samiti will be holding lot of programmes to make the function a grand success.
In the morning, former minister S A Ramdas will offer pooja to Nandi Dhwaja at Ramalingeshwara Temple. This will be followed by garlanding of Basavanna statue by BJP general secretary, H V Rajeev.
To help all those who would like to go for a free medical check-up, a medical check-up camp will be inaugurated at 11 am by KR Constituency MLA M K Somashekhar.
To mark the occasion, the samiti will be distributing free bags and books to poor students studying in different schools. According to organisers, this charity work would continue for several more years.
In the evening, a musical nite by Vidwan Shivashankar and team of Laya Lahiri has been organised.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha will inaugurate the evening function in tune with other programmes. Dr Manjunath, BJP city president and city Congress president …………..will grace the occasion.
Seers Immadi Madivala Swami, Basavalinga Swami, Chidananda Swami, Gurushantha Swami and Srikanta Swami will be present on the occasion.
U S Shekhar, a prominent Lingayat leader, H V Basavaraj, president, Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha, businessman Veerabhdrappa are some of the dignitaries who will be present on the occasion.
Corporators M V Ramaprasad, N Sunil, M Sunil, B V Manjunath, Umamani Madegowda and Ratnamma Shantaveerendraswamy will also be present.
