Speeding car coming from Bengaluru crash-lands on the car in which Ward 144 Lakkasandra Corporator Mahesh Babu and friends were travelling.
A Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Corporator and two others were killed on the spot when a speeding car from the opposite side crash-landed on their vehicle near Srirangapatna on Sundaymorning.
The victims have been identified as K Mahesh Babu, a BBMP Corporator of Ward Number 144 Lakkasandra, his friends Balaji and Mohammad Sharif. The injured in this car has been identified as Deepu. The other car had Kumar as the driver, Suresh and Bhavya and two small children. While Suresh and the children suffered minor injuries, Bhavya and Kumar have been admitted to hospitals.
According to the police, Mahesh Babu had come to Srirangapatna along with his three friends to visit tourist spots on Saturday and halted at a private lodge in Mysuru. They were heading back to Bengaluru and left the city at around 5:30 am in their Maruti Wagon R car (KA 01 MM 8623).
As they neared Gouripura curve at 6 am, a Maruti Swift Car (KA 41 P 8409) coming towards Mysuru from Bengaluru hit a divider and crash-landed on their car. Kumar who was driving the Swift lost control and hit a road divider. The impact of the accident was such that the Swift car was thrown up to 10 metres in the air and it landed on the Wagon R.
The car carrying the corporator and his friends was pushed into the roadside field and Mahesh Babu, Balaji and Mohammad Sharif was killed on the spot. Police said that Kumar was continuously driving the vehicle and had not rested and this would have made him sleepy.
According to other inmates inside the Swift car, Kumar had hit the accelerator instead of applying breaks as the vehicle neared the Gouripura curve. Kumar has been rushed to a hospital in Bengaluru as his spinal cord has been damaged and Bhavya has been admitted to a hospital in Mysuru.
