The Rangayana artistes, who had launched an indefinite agitation seeking post-retirement monitories and benefits, withdrew their dharna on Saturday.
The decision to call off the protest was taken after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promised to look into their demands. Following protests from Rangayana artistes, Kannada and culture department Minister Umashree requested the agitators to withdraw their protest and asked them to involve in preparation for national theatre festival ‘Bahuroopi-2017’. She said that the finance department has cleared the file to extend benefits to artistes post-retirement.
After the assurance, the artistes returned to work wearing black bands. The officials had also informed that the retirement benefits would also be extended to the family of Manjunath Belakere, the senior artiste who died recently in the city.
