Bengaluru, December 26:-The railway police have arrested five persons in connection with the series of robberies on Mysuru-Bengaluru train in the recent past.
The accused have been identified as Kirthi Raj (24) from Vinayaka Nagar, Sunil (22) from Chandra Layout, Guna Manja (24) from Babashankari, Thikla Abhishek (25) from Nayandanahalli and Bharath (20).
The gang used to target late-night trains plying between Mysuru-Bengaluru route. They used to board the train as ordinary passengers and when the train reached Bidadi and Majestic stations, they would threaten the passengers with a knife and decamp with cash and valuables.
The gang used slum children in robberies after training them. The accused are addicted to narcotics and used to board the train between Channapatna and Ramanagara and target passengers sitting near the door.
Out of five robbers, four would indulge in robbery and other one would pull the emergency chain in isolated and dark places which would help them escape in the dark.
The accused are also wanted in earlier robbery cases and have been booked in various police stations in Bengaluru.
Initially, robbers used to pelt stones at passengers sitting near train doors.
In the confusion, passengers would drop their mobiles from their hands. The robbers would collect them and run away.
Police have recovered 24 grams of gold, 10 mobiles and two-wheelers that were used in the robbery.
