Beyond Taalas: Taking dance beyond the mundane

Beyond Taalas, a creative dance factory, is completing five years in Mysuru and as part of its anniversary celebrations, it is organising The Wedding House, a two-day wedding fair comprising dance, fashion show and exhibition. The event will be held on March 12 and 13 at Wind Chimes, Nazarbad.

Beyond Taalas was launched in October 2010 in Vijayanagar at Tejaswini Complex on the Divyaroopa Kalyana Mantap Road. A first of its kind initiative in the city conceptualised and founded by art directors and choreographers Pooja Joshi and her husband Snehal Igoor, Beyond Taalas encourages city’s budding talent.

While Snehal is a software engineer by profession and an enthusiast in the field of fashion and dance, Pooja Joshi is an academician and a management professional.

Snehal has been part of major fashion events and fashion weeks with unique concept and worked with few top designers and Bollywood actors. Under the banner of Snehal Igoor Fashion Concepts, he has groomed many models who ha e excelled in many reality shows, TV and film industry.

Pooja Joshi is at the forefront of community development and has been the recipient of the Rashtrapathi Award. A perfectionist when it comes to dance, Pooja has trained in Bharatanatyam, Latin American, Contemporary and Bollywood dance forms.

Having more than 14 years of experience, she has trained and choreographed students of all age groups and has organised workshops, national-level events, college and corporate events.

Beyond Taalas caters to all age groups and teaches various forms of dance and art forms including classical, Bollywood, contemporary, Bolly hop, Belly to different Latin American styles. It also has creative art, fashion events, yoga, aerobics, meditation and activity centre for children.

Keeping with the trend, the institution takes up sangeets, wedding events, school/college choreographies, dance events, fashion choreography, show direction and grooming sessions.

“It is a creative factory that is a blend of all forms to professionally, to relax, to enjoy and also to learn. We invite creative people to showcase their talent and also join hands to take this creative hub to great heights,” says Pooja Joshi.

“We are all well-educated and professionals pursuing our passion to do something for the city and its talented people. Initially it was difficult to spread the word and establish ourselves but our efforts, sincerity, quality of dance and other offerings clicked for us. It is not just performance. We go beyond to connect with the mind giving the performers a complete control over the physical self and help them achieve harmony with nature,” she says.

Beyond Taalas regularly invites celebrity dancers to train the students. “We have had a series of workshops with celebrity dancers like Meher Malik and Deepak Singh and Cornel Rodrigues. We have even raised funds for Nepal quake victims. Here, dance is not just action and body movements. It is a stress buster and therapeutic,” she says.

The institution has dance categories to cater to the needs of children as young as four years. “Age is no bar here and anybody can learn. We have beginners, intermediate and advanced learning categories in all dance forms we teach,” she says.

“We have conducted personal classes to celebrities including Nidhi Subbaiah, Suraj Gowda and Nirup Bhandari and we have been conducting a series of workshops and classes at Mandya Ramesh’s Natana School. We have conducted training classes and workshops for spastic children,” she adds.

Apart from Snehal Igoor and Pooja Joshi, Beyond Taalas has Danny Ganapathy, Thulasi Kushalappa and Chaitra Eshwar as core instructors and performing artistes, Meghana Maligi as performer and multimedia designer and Yudhishter Urs as performer and photographer.

The Wedding House

A Snehal Igoor concept, The Wedding House relates to anything and everything to a wedding, showcasing the best clothing, jewellery, wedding planners, wedding destination/ resorts, photography/ video, footwear, silverware, home living, caterers, travel partners, automobiles, dance choreographers, gifts, concept cakes, automobiles and much more under one roof.

The event promises to create a wedding ambiance with all the above categories and an evening filled with entertainment with who’s who of the society to witness dance and fashion show themed Sangeeth.
