Bharat Ratna to Savarkar opposed

Mysuru, October 26:- “Savarkar who had written an apology to the British was anti-national. We condemn the proposal to confer him with Bharat Ratna,” said thinker Prof Mahesh Chandra Guru at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Friday.

“There is a lot of difference between the then Dalit activist V Srinivas Prasad and today’s Member of Parliament Srinivas Prasad. We have been observing Mahisha Dasara peacefully for many years. But ‘communal’ MP Pratap Simha and District in-charge Minister V Somanna enforced section 144 to stop the event. But our movement has been successful and Mahisha Dasara will be celebrated across the state,” he said.

“When Swami Vivekananda visited Mysuru, he stayed at the residence of Diwan Sheshadri and had not gone near NTMS school. It is not right to close the school where poor girls are studying. Swami Vivekananda would have opposed this commercialisation of education by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram,” he added.

President of Dalita Welfare Trust Shantharaju, Chikkandani, Prof TM Mahesh and others were present. (MR/KMR)
