Mysuru, December 20:- “Farmers should grow plants of bio-fuel along with food crops to secure their financial condition,” said the Director of National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, S Shyam Sundar.
He was speaking at a district-level workshop ‘bio-fuel’ held at NIE in association with Social Forestry Division, District Bio-fuel Information and Demonstration Centre of NIE, Mysuru Zilla Panchayat and Karnataka State Bio-fuel Development Board, Bengaluru, on Wednesday.
“We are purchasing fuel from foreign countries by paying huge sums of money. This fuel is polluting the society. We have many rural people and plenty of land. Bio-fuel can be prepared at villages as well. It can reduce the fuel import. It will make India self sustained in fuel. Such workshops will be held at all district centres,” he added.
“Ethanol can be manufactured with route and sugarcane juice. A Bengaluru-based company produces 20,000 litres of diesel. This can also create more employment opportunities for the youths,” he opined.
Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana, ZP vice president G Nataraj, director of Project Tiger Jagath Ram, Venkatesan and others were present. (GK, NGB)
