Bird flu: Culling operation continues in Mysuru

Mysuru, March 20:- In view of the prevailing bird flu that is haunting the city, culling operation has continued. Around 286 birds were culled on Thursday. 286 birds including 58 chicks, 161 country fowl, 67 pet birds were killed on Thursday. Around 161 eggs were also destroyed.

Within one kilometre surrounding Kumbarakoppal, Metagalli, BM Shri Nagar, Hebbal region, 4,317 birds were killed on Tuesday, 989 birds and 215 eggs on Wednesday, 286 birds were killed on Thursday. The operation will continue on Friday and Saturday as well to check whether any birds have remained. The rapid response team will hold an inspection on Friday and Saturday.

The cleanliness drive was held in the areas of culling operation and the dead birds were buried in pits mixed with salt and limestone. Eight check posts have been set up at 10 km surrounding Kumbarakoppal and transportation of chicken has been prohibited.

Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G Sankar said that he has not issued directives not to eat chicken and said he has only banned the sale of chicken in the bird flu infected areas in 10 km radius. (MR/KS)
