Mysuru: On the occasion of the 95th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee last Saturday (Dec 25), the Mysuru Backward Classes’ Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party cleaned an ancient lake in the foothills of Chamundi Hills. The Morcha members held a poster of Vajpayee and planted various species of saplings to mark the day.
Speaking on the occasion, Morcha president Jogi Manju said, “Vajpayee has been the Prime Minister of our country three times. He was the one who aimed to succeed in the fight for the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Janam Bhoomi through the ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’. He had been actively involving himself in many social, cultural and political activities. He served as a member of the National Integration Board, the president of the All India Station Masters’ Association and a member of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Memorial Committee .”
He added, “He also worked as a member of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, made a name for himself as a good poet and writer, and worked as an editor of many newspapers like Rashtradharma, Panchajanya, Swadeshi Nitti And Veerarjun.”
Morcha members urged the government to name the train traveling from Kanyakumari to Delhi ‘Vajpayee Express’ as a tribute to the veteran leader.
Mysuru Backward Classes’ Morcha general secretary Gopal, Mani Ratnam, vice president Mahadevu, Krishna Murthy, KR Constituency president Shivappa, Guru Prasad, Somu, Rajiv Friendship Club Convener Kumar, Rajesh, Savita Ghatke, Sushila, Prasad, Purushottama, Shivraj and others were present on the occasion.
