Nija Sharana Ambigara Chowdaiah birth anniversary was celebrated in the city, on Saturday.
Mysuru District Administration in association with Kannada and Culture Department had organised a programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of Ambigara Chowdaiah.
Delivering a special lecture on the occasion, writer Kalegowda Nagavara said “Chowdaiah was a great social reformer and Vachanakara of the state, through his vachanas he tried to educate and uplift the downtrodden and exploited sections of our society. Even today, the practice of untouchablity exists. Centuries back, Vachanakaras gave importance to eradicate discrimination in the society and we need to adopt their philosophy and learn from their literature and vachanas, Nagavara added.
