Birth centenary of Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar held

Mysuru, July 19:- “The contributions of Wadiyars of Mysuru are immense. Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar contributed a lot for the rural development,” said former Member of Parliament R Dhruvanarayan.

He was speaking at the birth centenary celebration of late Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar organised by Karnataka State Urs Sangha at Nadabrahma auditorium at Nanjumalige here on Thursday.

“We are observing the birth centenary of the last king who ruled us. Around 555 kings have ruled various parts of India. But none of them has been as generous as the Wadiyars. For that, Mahatma Gandhi had called Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar as Rajarshi,” he said.

“All the 25 kings who ruled Yadu dynasty were role models. We should always remember them. We may have got an opportunity to serve as elected representatives in democracy, but it is the Wadiyars who laid the foundation for the state to be identified as the best among many,” he added.

Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, senior actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, actor Aniruddha, historian Prof Nanjaraje Urs, assistant director of Kannada and Culture Department H Chennappa, B Jagadish Bahaddur and others were present. (MR/KS)
