Mysuru, August 11:- “I am born in a ‘Farmers’ family’ and brought up amidst the ‘Farming’ atmosphere, the remarks by Opposition party leaders shows their ‘ignorance’ towards the farmers,” said Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Speaking to media persons after visiting Suttur Mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hill in the city on Saturday, Kumaraswamy took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa.
He said, “The Opposition party leaders are criticising my visit to Seethapura village where I will be transplanting paddy saplings. The opposition has taken this opportunity to make a political statement. I am not participating in this programme to prove myself as a ‘Mannina Maga.’ I am born and brought up in the ‘Farmers’ family and I don’t wish to comment on the statements made by BJP leaders.”
“From the past four years, the Mandya District farmers were not able to transplant saplings as the place was reeling under severe drought. Now with good rainfall in the state, I am participating in farming activity and spending some time with the farmers. But BJP leaders are trying to make it a political issue and this shows their disrespect towards the farmers’ community. I shall maintain silence,” Kumaraswamy added.
Reacting to the flood situation in South Karnataka region, Kumarswamy said, “I have instructed the officials to take all precautionary measures and keep me updated about the situation. I have directed them to release funds for the ‘relief’ and to not make any delay in releasing funds. Rs 100 crore has been announced as relief fund for Kodagu District recently and Rs 20 crore has already been sanctioned. The remaining funds will be released part by part,” he added.
